Key differences
- Microsoft 365 Copilot Business is for organisations with up to 300 users on Microsoft 365 Business plans; enterprise Copilot has a broader prerequisite list [10]
- Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat (web-grounded) is included at no cost with eligible Microsoft 365 subscriptions; work-grounded chat requires a Copilot licence [6]
- There is no minimum number of seats any more (the original 300-seat minimum was dropped in January 2024). Microsoft 365 Copilot is sold on annual terms; paying an annual term monthly costs 5% more. [11]
- Technical requirements: a Microsoft Entra ID account, a primary mailbox in Microsoft Exchange Online (on-premises mailboxes are not supported), Microsoft OneDrive for some features, and user-based (not device-based) licensing of the Microsoft 365 Apps. [12]

Microsoft 365 Copilot Business: usage-based billing on by default from 1 December 2026 (moved from 2 November 2026) [13]
Where Microsoft’s own pages disagree
- Naming: Microsoft Learn (17 September 2026) calls the products “Microsoft Copilot” and “Microsoft Copilot Business”, while the Swiss and US pricing pages still say “Microsoft 365 Copilot” and Microsoft’s licensing list still says “Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365” (Microsoft_365_Copilot). - The Swiss Microsoft 365 Copilot enterprise page notes that displayed prices are for marketing purposes and may differ from the actual list price (CHF 24.30). [8]
