Data location and encryption
- Tenants set up in Switzerland get Microsoft’s contractual commitment to store core Microsoft 365 data in Switzerland at no extra cost; broader guarantees need the paid Advanced Data Residency add-on. Overview of Product Terms Data Residency ↗
- A new admin setting controls in-country storage: it is off by default for Swiss tenants created after 14 September 2026, and from 14 December 2026 Microsoft may store data in the EU Data Boundary while it is off. Check the setting in your admin center. Overview of Product Terms Data Residency ↗
- Microsoft requires Advanced Data Residency licences for 100% of the tenant’s eligible paid seats. Advanced data residency in Microsoft 365 ↗
ClearSource does not state which services and data types the location commitments cover, or where in Switzerland they are stored; read Microsoft’s pages below for that. It also states no price for Advanced Data Residency: the add-on has no SKU in Microsoft’s licence list, so there is no Swiss list price here.
Microsoft’s plan comparisons have no row for Double Key Encryption or Multi-Geo, so ClearSource does not state which plans include them.
Microsoft’s licence list has a Multi-Geo product: Office 365 Multi-Geo Capabilities — No public Swiss price
